Below are some popular floor coating solutions and methods to help you evaluate and understand some of the Chicago flooring restoration and coating solutions on the market.
Neat Coatings/Systems are an epoxy, polyurea or polyaspartic systems that are applied in one, two, or even a three coat application. The number of coats will depend on the use and overall thickness of the coating required. The number of coats and type of coating are also dependent on the protection (meaning from chemicals and UV rays) or strength required. Strength is measured as the ability to take abuse from impacts or wear and tear from equipment or machinery. A slip resistant aggregate can be lightly broadcasted into the topcoat. Neat coatings are pigmented to meet basic floor coating needs or, with a little imagination, vast, beautiful and artistic designs can be created.Garage Store is unique because we will help you create a floor that’s just right for your garage or business. With various attractive colors and flake blends to choose from, Garage Store has a design to complement your personal style.
Random Flake Systems are the same as neat coatings, but with the addition of vinyl chips or flakes lightly broadcasted into the second to last coating. Typically the flake is broadcasted prior to the topcoat and then a slip resistant aggregate is lightly broadcasted into a clear topcoat. These systems are the same as neat coatings, but with a decorative touch from the flake.
Single and Double Broadcast Coating Systems consist of a neat epoxy floor coating, or base coat, with a flake or aggregate broadcasted into the wet polymer. The aggregate broadcasted in these systems can be various blends of flake, silica sand, colored silica or quartz sand. The process can be repeated up to three times depending on the overall thickness and compression strength desired. Compression strength is the pounds per square inch that can be applied without leaving an impression in the floor. For example, a single broadcast flake system with a polyurea or polyaspartic topcoat can typically have 11,500 – 12,000 lbs. psi compression strength.
Slurry Systems or Trowel Systems are troweled, or applied, in a one lift system to create a specific thickness. Garage Store’s experienced applicators will blend polymers and aggregate to meet the needs of the client and the application. This system is great for repairs and filling of concrete imperfections or heavily pitted concrete. Additionally, silica sand can be evenly broadcasted into the wet polymer until the polymer “capillaries” or “wicks” upward until there is only dry sand on the surface. Once the system is dry, the dry, or excess sand, can be removed off the surface. This system can then be top coated with a pigmented topcoat or broadcasted with a flake and clear topcoat for added protection and aesthetics.
